People of all ages are gearing up to run, walk or jog in the name of charity in Solihull next month.
The sixth annual Blythe Valley Park fun run takes place on Sunday, September 13th and will this year feature a new 10k run around the countryside pathways of the business and country park, on top of the usual 5k and mini fun run courses.
More than 100 people have already signed up to take part, and joint event organisers Liberty Property Trust, which runs the business park, and Shirley Lions Club are expecting more than double the 160 runners who tackled the courses last year to take to the track.
Entry fees will this year be going towards Blythe Valley Park’s charity of the year, Solihull Autistic Support Service Information (SASSI), although runners can raise sponsorship for any charity of
their choice.
Medals and trophies are to be awarded for the best fancy dress on the day, and also to the youngest and oldest runners, and the fastest around the course.
Birmingham and Solihull Rugby Club players will once again be taking part in the run, which is to be started by ex-Birmingham City footballer and current Republic of Ireland under 21 manager Don Givens.
Away from the course, there will also be entertainment for runners and spectators, including a children’s bouncy castle and music.
Kate Smith, of Liberty Property Trust UK, which manages the business park in partnership with Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, said: “We are well on the way to having more then double the amount of runners as last year which is fantastic.
“We try to support charities local to our developments like SASSI as much as we can, and I know everyone at Blythe Valley Park is eagerly looking forward to September 13.”
To enter the mini fun run, which starts at 11am, or the 5k and 10k races, which get going at 11.30am log on to www.runnersworld.co.uk/events. Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s – and will go directly towards SASSI.
