2010-07-27 14:30:40 - The seventh annual Blythe Valley Park Charity Fun Run is to be held in Solihull in September and this year there is an added incentive for runners to sign up with a sibling.

Joint organisers Liberty Property Trust, which own and manage the Business Park, and Shirley Lions Club have secured funding from Brother UK and one of their key partners Midland Business Equipment to help with the cost of putting on the event on Sunday, September 12.

There will be a 10km and 5km race, plus a 500m mini fun run which will all be taking place on the day and will be started by a local celebrity.

Money raised from the entry fees will be split between Solihull Breast Friends and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

Worldwide print manufacturer Brother UK and leading office equipment suppliers Midland Business Equipment, based on Station Road in Knowle, have also donated £500 to the two charities.

And

to celebrate the link-up with the two firms, the race organisers are encouraging runners to run with a brother or sister at their side.

Kate Smith, of Liberty Property Trust UK, which manages the business park in partnership with Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, said: “We are delighted Brother UK and Midlands Business Equipment are supporting us this year and to mark the two companies joining forces in support of two great local charities it would be brilliant if as many brothers and sisters as possible could take part in the races!

“We had a record number of people run last year which made for a great day and hopefully the event on September 12 will be even better.”

Ken Barker, of Shirley Lions Club, added: “We are all hoping for good weather and a large turnout of runners. Everyone is welcome – in fact the more the merrier and the more money we will be able to raise for our chosen charities.”

Runners can raise sponsorship money for any charity of their choice and medals and trophies are to be awarded to the fastest runners, along with the oldest and youngest taking part and also the best fancy dress on the day.

Away from the course, there will also be entertainment for runners and spectators, including a free bouncy castle for children under 12 and live music.

To enter the mini fun run, which starts at 11am, or the 5km and 10km races, which get going at 11.30am log on to www.runnersworld.co.uk/events. Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children under 12.
