innovative mobile application development start-up located near Seattle Washington and appropriately named Blinding Rain.
Unlike most applications available now, this one is designed specifically for the BlackBerry® smart phone platform, and they say that their fōne book makes it fast and easy to connect with people, find businesses. You can locate a good restaurant and map to locations and addresses, all "on the fly".
With the fōne book by Blinding Rain you will have access to some of the most current directory listing information for almost 210 million US adults AND 14 million businesses - right on your BlackBerry smart phone, almost instantly. Using your fōne book for the Storm, you can look up the directory information for 210 million US adults. When you find who you're looking for, you can directly use that information – click-to-call, click-to-add to contacts and see a mapped view of the contact, all in the detail result page of your application.
Business Search
With Business Search on the fōne book, you can search for businesses by name, or by category, see a list of results and suggestions, even if you don't know the exact name or city.
Reverse Phone Number Search
It has never been easier to find out who it was that called with Reverse Search on fōne book. The Reverse Search feature is available with a single "click" from the BlackBerry menu in your phone log. No copy and paste needed here.
Recent Search Listing
Your Recent Listing gives you the last 20 contact details you have viewed. This List is retained if you move to a different app or close fōne book altogether. It is also available if you are out of your coverage area or have no service.
What seems to differentiate this application from some of the current offerings for smart phones is that it doesn’t try to be the techno version of a Swiss Army Knife. The fōne book does one thing – it looks up contact information and gives it to you in a very usable fashion. And it does it very, very well.
According to Dan Hoff, Managing Partner of Blinding Rain, “it is kind of like being able to have every local phone directory for every city, town, county and area throughout the U.S., right on you BlackBerry and all accessible at the touch of a button.”
He went on to say that in building this application, what they wanted to be able to do was “to build a useful tool for BlackBerry smart phone users. We wanted to build something useful to a broad spectrum of users whether they were a business user, a “road warrior”, a soccer mom or just someone who wanted a good phone that did more.
