Biometrics are measurable forms of the living body or its behaviour, both of which are individual to each person. Crime and terrorism have increased such high levels that passwords, PIN-codes and even Smart Cards can no longer ensure an acceptable level of security. Biometric authentication is the solution for this problem. With the patent-registered product ComBiom, BIOMETRY.com AG offers a

unique biometric authentication procedure, based on several modes: Face-, Lip Movement-, Voice- and Word- Recognition. Additionally, a series of randomly chosen numbers (random challenge response figures), which the user speaks, complete the authentication process.

Even though ComBiom is a complex process, its use is simple: First, the user enrols in the system. He simply speaks the numbers from 0 to 9 which appear on the interface, looking and speaking into the webcam. For every spoken number, a user-specific file (template) is established, hosting the information for each of the 4 authentication modes. For logical access, the system asks the user to speak a randomly generated series of four numbers every time he logs in. If the biometric data matches the previously saved templates, ComBiom allows the user to enter.

Summing up, the great advantage of ComBiom lies in that it provides a very high level of security. There are two definite security barriers. First, the simultaneous combination of multiple biometrics and second, the randomised figures demanded for authentication. In addition, there is a high level of user-comfort. The figures appearing on the screen need simply to be spoken (FreeHaM - Free Hands and Memory). Importantly, the only equipment required is a simple webcam with microphone, which today normally come standard with most laptops.

Due to its high level of security, easy use and negligible hardware requirements, ComBiom overcomes the typical disadvantages of biometric authentication solutions.
