BioFuelBox announced today that it has been selected as a 2010 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The company was one of 26 visionary companies chosen after a vigorous selection process by 58 global technology experts. The only waste-to-energy company to win this year’s prestigious award, BioFuelBox is being recognized for helping industrial and municipal partners reduce pollution and increase energy independence by transforming their highly contaminated wastewater fats, oils and greases (wastewater FOG) into clean-burning biodiesel.
To be selected as a Technology Pioneer, a company must be involved in the development of a life-changing technology innovation and have the potential for long-term impact on business and society. In addition, it must demonstrate visionary leadership and show
all the signs of a long-standing and sustainable market leader with proven technology.
Current and previous Technology Pioneers include Twitter (2010), Mozilla (2007), Amyris Biotechnologies (2006), Gilead Sciences (2004), NVidia (2003), Google (2002), PayPal (2002), Intuitive Surgical (2001), SanDisk (2001) and Broadcom (2000).
“We were truly impressed with the quality, quantity and diversity of the applicants this year, thereby making the selection process the most difficult to date,” stated Kevin Comelli, Technology Pioneer Program Partner and Member of the Selection Committee. “I would like to congratulate the Technology Pioneers Class of 2010. These companies can be very proud of receiving such a respected and coveted distinction.”
“We are proud to be honored by this award and for the recognition of BioFuelBox’s commitment and achievements addressing global waste-to-energy challenges,” said Steven Perricone, BioFuelBox’s CEO.
“BioFuelBox Corporation’s proprietary NovoStream™ technology provides the most environmentally friendly solution for remediating wastewater FOG like trap grease, wastewater scum, industrial food processing DAF, and other wastewater FOG sources. In addition, biodiesel from wastewater FOG has 85% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than petroleum-based diesel.”
Annually more than 12 billion gallons of FOG are finding their way into the world’s water supply. Wastewater FOG collected at industrial and municipal treatment facilities are needlessly incinerated or sent to landfills, creating air pollutants and potent greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane. Sanitary system overflows from FOG-clogged sewer systems further contribute towards the global pollution problem causing local governments billions of dollars each year in maintenance.
Wastewater FOG has also become a major environmental concern with stricter laws making it more costly for industrial and municipal wastewater treatment facilities to dispose of FOG removed from their wastewater streams.
About BioFuelBox
BioFuelBox is a waste remediation and resource recovery company focused on converting wastewater fats, oils and greases (wastewater FOG) into ASTM quality biodiesel by means of modular bio-refineries that can be rapidly deployed and co-located at wastewater and waste grease processing facilities. BioFuelBox installs, owns and operates these small, skid-mounted bio-refineries, thereby minimizing up-front costs to the wastewater treatment facilities. The BioFuelBox “Total Solution” allows partners to eliminate a critical waste disposal problem and reduce operating expenses. BioFuelBox is creating a worldwide network of bio-refineries to address the estimated 12 billion gallons a year of FOG from the world’s wastewater streams.
