High Fashion Salon Style Meets Street Style Innovations During Celebration of $3 Billion Natural Hair Care Industry
(New York, NY)…The second Master Pioneer Award gala, honoring 8 renowned natural hair care specialists from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland, and benefiting LB Training, Inc., takes place at the historic Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, September 14, 2013, 6:00-9:00 pm. The evening will feature performance tributes by spoken word artist Essence China Farmer and vocalist Nickey McMullen, a natural hair photo exhibit and the Afro Beauty Defined Hair Show, produced by Sakeenah Nzingha Kinard. “It is not enough to simply be part of history, we must document it as well,” says Anita Hill Moses, Founder and Executive Director of the Master Pioneer Award. “The MPAs is my documentation of this moment and my contribution to its legacy.”
Two inaugural Master Pioneer Award honorees join Hill Moses in her legacy contribution and continue to give back to and nurture the industry they helped build. Diane C. Bailey serves as managing director of special events overseeing the Masters’ Blogger’s Brunch and Afro Beauty Defined Hair Show. Nekhena Evans lends her talent and experience in special event planning and hosts this year’s award ceremony.

The Afro Beauty Defined Hair Show, a highlight of this year’s event, will celebrate the
signature designs of the honorees and feature styles by New York based hair designers from Nu
Wave Kultural Kreations, Sophisticated Locs, Natural Edgez, TarBaby Designs, Kinks & Co.
Asase and Sumptuous Locs, as well as New Jersey’s Meko NewYork and Maryland’s Natural
Trendzetters. Celebrated wigmaker Hadiiya Barbel’s hairpiece collection will also be featured
along with the Bare Head Beauties of the Unveiled Unlocked Movement. Models will don
designs by Afrodesiac Worldwide, from Accra, Ghana, Yvonne Jewnell Designs, Lalinguere of
Harlem, NY, Tents of Kedar, Tafari Tribe, Afrofunkk and Gureje of Brooklyn, NY.
The Master Pioneer Awards will be appropriately held in the in the presence of the largest collection of sub-Saharan African art in an American art museum and world-renowned permanent collections ranging from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art documenting the current social realities of the United States.

About Anita Hill- Moses, Master Pioneer Award Founder
Anita Hill-Moses has been an integral part of the Natural Hair Care industry for over 20 years. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Anita moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1995 and established Braids And Dreads, Inc. (B.A.D.), the city’s second natural hair care salon totally dedicated to natural hair care, education and braiding.
Anita holds a Masters Degree in Business Management, a Cosmetology license (Virginia) and a Natural Hair Care license (New York and Virginia). She is classified as a Master Loctician/Master Braider and is a licensed instructor teaching various locking techniques, over 15 braid techniques, grooming and other practices related to natural hair care. In 2010, Anita was appointed to the Board of Directors of LB Beauty, Inc. and she was approved as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of locs, natural hair and braiding for the National Interstate Council of Cosmetology (NICC). Anita’s styling
expertise has been featured in Braids and Beauty, Sophisticates Black Hair, Braid World, Essence Magazine and others. Anita is a three-time recipient of The Golden Scissors Award.
Master Pioneer Award Ceremony Host: Nekhena Evans
CEO of New Bein’ Enterprises and Inaugural Master Pioneer Award honoree, Nekhena Evans, is a natural hair specialist & natural beauty expert, author, conference and hair show producer and product designer affectionately known as ‘The Queen of Adornment’ for her iconic hair jewelry designs. Nekhena has won numerous awards for her business acumen and creativity and she has spoken internationally on behalf of the natural hair care industry.
Master Pioneer Award Managing Director, Special Events: Diane C. Bailey
Inaugural Master Pioneer, author, spokesperson, entrepreneur and educator, Diane C.
Bailey, has more than 30 years of natural hair care experience. Currently, she is the
Beauty Ambassador and Consulting Stylist for Sundial Brands, and lead stylist to The
SuperNaturals, a natural hair advocacy group. Diane has authored three books on the
subject of natural hair and will celebrate her fourth release this fall. Diane has the
distinction of being the first African American appointed by the Secretary of State to
the New York State Appearance Enhancement Advisory Committee on which she
served for five years.

Sakeenah Nzingha Kinard
Beauty entrepreneur, Sakeenah Nzingha Kinard, is an arts administrator, operations
manager and spokesperson for Nu Ade, a salon perfected line of healthy hair oils. As
the daughter of inaugural Master Pioneer Award honoree, Tulani Kinard, Sakeenah
continues the legacy by producing hair events that honor the history of the natural
hair industry. As a stakeholder in the next generation of natural hair care
industry professionals, it is her goal to expand the awareness of healthy hair care
practices and to nurture emerging stylized confidence while shifting beauty standard
