HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., April 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the midst of a spirited national debate about racially inappropriate comments made by Don Imus, BiasHELP has stepped-up distribution of its "Mirror Images" diversity training DVD series. The series, which serves as the centerpiece for diversity training at dozens of corporations, universities, non-profits and health care facilities nationwide, offers unique first-person perspectives on race as well as on ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. Produced on Long Island, "Mirror Images" features both young people and older Americans discussing their experiences and juxtaposing the
challenges of today with the challenges of yesterday, while united in their hope for the future.
"Today's inflammatory debates on race are being led by pundits and commentators, rather than by everyday average Americans, who generally are looking only for a civil, responsible conversation about race," said "Mirror Images" creator Dr. Gail Barouh. "And that's what 'Mirror Images' is designed to facilitate."
Topics covered on the forty-minute DVD include the current state of race relations, racial profiling, and stereotyping as seen through the eyes of a Tuskegee airman, a friend of Martin Luther King, Jr., a law enforcement professional and several teens. Funding for "Mirror Images" was provided by the U.S. Department of Justice and the series was produced by BiasHELP, a non- profit organization providing victim assistance, violence prevention programs and capacity building services.
With interest in the DVD series booming in recent weeks, Barouh said, "By increasing awareness of personal biases, building specific skills and providing unique insights into the historic struggles, current challenges and future aspirations of America's diverse population, this DVD offers experiences and lessons that aren't available anywhere else."
