2011-03-01 10:10:25 - Concha García de Pablos is a contemporary artist who is inspired by the beauty and the holiness of life and considers them to be the main ideas in her artistic work. She successfully transmits the importance that art must have in our lives, since the aesthetic experience is still one of the feelings that provides immense gratification.

Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature a Spanish artist, Concha García de Pablos, in Degrees of Abstraction. The exhibition is scheduled to run from March 25, 2011 through April 15, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, March 31, 2011).

About the Artist
Living and working off the Spanish Mediterranean coast, Concha García de Pablos finds inspiration in the way of life and sense of happiness she finds there, and like Matisse incorporates the bright light and vivid hues native to that region to create the intensity of texture and color that are a hallmark of her paintings. She uses an ancient technique called Encaustic, a process of painting with molten wax and resin that lends the pigments a very strong light, and her attention to

line instills a simple beauty in her work.

What makes Garcia de Pablos’ compositions so compelling is her exploration of the harmony between order and chaos, light and shadow. Her use of texture supports this theme, positioning flat, warm areas next to more aggressive, highly textured spaces. Overall, Garcia de Pablos’ paintings are dominated by a pervading sense of serenity yet simultaneously of great energy and movement, all pointing to the greater truth of the “ying” and the “yang” of our human experience, the oppositional points that fit together to bring balance to the way our lives unfold.
