KNOXVILLE, TN -- (Marketwire) -- 02/21/13 -- Auria Asadsangabi, president of the 2016 freshman class at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, has been invited for membership to Phi Eta Sigma, the largest and oldest honor society for freshman university students in the country.

Founded at the University of Illinois in 1923, Phi Eta Sigma's mission is to support and acknowledge academic achievement of freshman students at higher learning institutions. Auria Asadsangabi was invited to join the Society on the basis of his having at least a 3.5 to 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while carrying a normal academic load towards a bachelor's degree, ranking in the upper 20 percent of his class, his extracurricular activities, and for his work with humanitarian organizations.

During Auria Asadsangabi's freshman semester at the University of Tennessee in the fall of 2012, he maintained an "A" grade-point average, was elected president of the 2016 class and joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Auria also joined the National Society of Collegiate Scholars -- a non-profit national academic honor society -- in the spring 2013 semester.

Due to his membership in Sigma Phi Epsilon, Auria Asadsangabi was elected Vice President of the fraternity's Balanced Man Scholarship Committee for the spring semester of 2013 and was given the opportunity to train as an executive board officer at the Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta, Georgia in February of 2013.

Auria Asadsangabi's passion for humanitarian causes led him to volunteer for the Edge Leadership Program in October 2012, where he mentored underprivileged urban college, high school, and elementary school students in Crossville, Tennessee. Auria also volunteered for East Tennessee Children's Hospital Telethon Fundraising Event that same month.

This month, Auria Asadsangabi will return to his fundraising efforts with East Tennessee Children's Hospital on February 22nd for their annual "Dancing with the Knoxville Stars" contest, in which Knoxville-area celebrities will partner with local dance teachers from Academy Ballroom. Funds are raised primarily from tickets to the event and an online donating system where interested donors can vote for their dancing couple of choice. "Dancing with the Knoxville Stars" will take place on February 22nd at 7pm at the Knoxville Expo Center, 5441 Clinton Highway.

Auria Asadsangabi will graduate from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in spring of 2016.
