A round up of the latest auction results. The final auction of cherished numbers of 2008 was held at Tankersley Manor, Barnsley, South Yorkshire on the 19th,20th and 21st of November 2008. The auction was organized by Premier Motor Auctions on behalf of the Sale of Marks Group DVLA. 1600 lots were on offer over the 3 days with bids taken by post, phone, in person and over
the internet.
Most successful number sold was 1 RH which went for £196,000 on the drop of the hammer, which equates to approximately £245,000 after auctioneers commission, vat and transfer fee. Second was 87 A which brought a paltry (in comparison) £14,800. Third was 1 MND at £12,200, not a bad price for a number one.
Some surprising results were 833 TLE ( Beetle ) at £10,700 and SC07 LND ( Scotland ) at £10,000. Some good cheap novelty plates were JUM9P at £600, SOA 4P at £450. Most obvious number to need doctoring was LCW 15S at £6000 which is no doubt going to made to resemble LEWIS. Surprisingly JE55 SSY did not sell.
299 lots remained unsold which is quite a rise from last auction when 238 did not sell, a clear sign of the economic slow down. Total income from the sale was over £400k which is pretty similar to earlier auctions but 1 RH made a good contribution to that.
This concludes the auction season for 2008, dates and veues for 2009 have yet to be announced.
