More than 56000 missing in Myanmar

Asean Take-up aid work in Myanmar

2008-05-20 11:11:15 - Logistic supports of medical teams of Asean organisation to which Myanmar holds the membership has been allowed to carry out aid work with their team.

Asean is sending its team of medical doctors and other health support items to take up the aid work in Myanmar cylone hit areas.

Asean an internationla organisation was established in 8 August 1967in Bangkok with original five nation conglomerate with its object of peace in the regions and stability.Five nation to join were Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillippines,and Singapore.later on six other nation eneterd the aglomerate are Brunei,Darussalam in Jan 1984,Vietan and lao PDR joined in 1995,Myanmar joined 1997 and Cambodia entered 30th april 1999.

Asean,International organisation is meeting on 23 May in Yangoon to take stock of Myanmar cylone situation to award aglomerate aid to the Irrawady delta cylone ravaged on 2 May 2008.

Myanmar has refused the team

workers entry to Myanmar hit areas and the Secertary General Mr Ban-Ki- Moon is visiting Myanmar to pressurise Myanmar regime to speed up the releif work by allowing International rescue team with logistic supports.

Myanmar has refused free entry or periodic visit of team to the cylone hit Irrawaddy delta the medical and food aids by International agencies.More than 56000 peoples are missing in the cyclone nargis hit areas of Myanmar and more than forty thousand have died.

World Bank official says the bank will not give financial aid or loans to cyclone-hit Myanmar because of outstanding debts by ruling junta.

Commissioner EU,Lois Michael visited Myanmar for three days to convince the Myanmar minister to allow visa for six months to aid team and NGO for free access to Irrawady delta to which the Myanmar officials have refused his plea for teams and aircrafts to land from abroad directly to Burma to give speedy releif. His appeals to the minister at lower levels have no authority to give permissions,the authority lies in General Than Shwe,the chief of Military regime.

Unhygenic condition ,lack of facilities of sanitation with no drinking water and electricity is adding more suffering to the victim and epidemic is likely to follow which may bring more casualities in the cyclone ravaged areas.
