Hollywood actress Alysia Rogers, best known for her role in John Singleton’s blockbuster film, Boyz n the Hood, and Class Act is making a comeback after 20 years away from the big screen. Rogers will play Lynda Merritt in the short film, Beyond Merritt, directed by Reuben Johnson.
Beyond Merritt is the true story of Lynda Merritt, a drug-addicted single mom who finds herself in the grips of drug addiction, poverty, loss, and despair. “I was fascinated the moment I heard Lynda’s story. Beyond Merritt is a powerful film because it tells the true story of an addict who is fighting for her life, and has to face some of her darkest hours without anyone to turn to. The film
is real life for so many people,” states writer/producer Ci Ci Foster.
The rise of drug abuse in women and mothers, and hearing Lynda Merritt’s powerful story prompted 4 Hearts Productions to create the film. “We need to make people aware about this growing epidemic and also inspire people who are struggling to get help.” Beyond Merritt boasts a multi-talented cast including Mashari Laila Bain (The Young & The Restless, Without A Trace) and Mike Estime (Everybody Hates Chris, The Last Holiday).
“We have a talented cast and crew on board for this project, states executive producer Kevin Foster. I believe this film will open people’s eyes about the horrors of drug addiction, and loss. It also provides a message for people suffering from addiction that there is always hope no matter how tough life gets.”
4 Hearts Productions is currently seeking funders for the film and is running a campaign on Indiegogo.com. Visit www.Indiegogo.com/BeyondMerritt to donate or for more details. For information about 4 Hearts Productions, visit www.4HeartsProductions.com.
