2008-11-13 09:14:16 - Allied Telesis's New Gigabit WebSmart switch provides cost-effective management
functionality at the edge of the network.

Chiasso, Switzerland. November 2008 - Allied Telesis has launched the AT-GS950/8POE, an 8 port managed Gigabit WebSmart switch, with Power over Ethernet and silent operation. Allied Telesis developed this product as a replacement of the popular AT-GS900/8POE to address the growing demand for higher data transfer rates over long distances.

The AT-GS950/8POE offers three main benefits:

• It is capable of supporting

100Mbps Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) modules over a large distance.
• Silent operation, rendering it ideal for use in an office, retail or a classroom environment.
• The switch contains two SFP uplinks, allowing it to be deployed in a ring topology with fiber connecting the switches. This allows a number of switches to be deployed over distances of up to 2km, using a multi-mode fiber or further using single-mode. It is especially useful on large campuses, within the military or for high-availability applications.

Melvyn Wray, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing at Allied Telesis said, "Allied Telesis has seen strong growth in the market for Gigabit WebSmart switches. The AT-GS950/8POE provides users with unprecedented performance and expandability at an affordable price point. Its powerful features, silent operation and flexibility mean it can be deployed in small or large installations with equal effectiveness.'

Using a fiber infrastructure, the AT-GS950/8POE can be used to power VoIP phones and cameras, a definite requirement from within the military. Its WebSmart switch functionality can secure VLANs and provide the Quality of Service needed to prioritize mission-critical traffic.

The AT-GS950/8POE is available from November 2008.
