A Biography by Esme Berman and Karel Nel now available A new major work on the life and work of Alexis Preller has been launched in conjunction to a retrospective exhibition: ‘Alexis Preller: Africa, the Sun and Shadows’ at the Standard Bank Gallery until 5 December 2009.
According to the books website historian and author Esmé Berman, knew Alexis Preller personally recounts the fascinating story of his life and works in
the book.
The book also draws extensively on Berman's unique archival material, who also produced the cornerstone book on recent South African art: Art & Artists of South Africa.
The Preller book also records analysis of 70 major works by Esmé Berman and Professor Karel Nel and illuminates the development of the artistic forms and idioms with which Preller gave expression to his unique vision of Africa.
