Johannesburg, South Africa – With one month to go before the 4th edition of the Africa Health Exhibition & Congress is hosted at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, organisers have announced that they are teaming up with the Smile Foundation in South Africa to help them provide free corrective facial reconstructive surgery and treatment to thousands of young patients across the country.

The Smile Foundation is a South African NGO that assists children with facial anomalies, to receive free corrective plastic and reconstructive surgery within South Africa. The foundation helps children who suffer from treatable facial conditions such as Cleft Lip and Palate, burns, facial paralysis (Moebius Syndrome) and other facial conditions.

The Africa Health Congress, organised by Informa Life

Sciences Exhibitions, takes place from 29-31 May 2014 and will be donating 100% of its conference registration fees to the charity. All conferences are priced at 100 ZAR ($10 USD) each.

“The Smile Foundation could not change the lives of so many children without important and generous partnerships. The impact that Africa Health’s donation will have on the lives of the children we help, is beyond measure. Tying up with the medical community to enhance the quality of care and expand our hospital network, is always our priority,” says
Hedley Lewis, Finance and Fundraising Executive Director, the Smile Foundation.

According to Simon Page, Managing Director, Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions, “In line with our philosophy of ‘Exhibition with Education’, Africa Health wishes to invest in the medical teams working with the Smile Foundation here in South Africa to make a difference in the lives of children with facial anomalies. While our 14 CPD accredited conferences offer a scientific and educational platform for medical professionals in the region, we also seek to invest in the local community through our corporate social responsibility initiatives.”

Dubbed as the continent’s premier medical showcase, the Africa Health also hosts an exhibition featuring the latest medical innovations from 400 local and international exhibitors and 16 country pavilions taking up 5000 sqm of exhibition space. Africa Health 2014 will once again feature MEDLAB South Africa (the medical laboratory & IVD show) running alongside the event for the 4th year.

Africa Health 2014 is supported by the South African Nursing Council (SANC), the CFSA (CSSD Forum of South Africa), the Alliance of South African Independent Practitioners Association (ASAIPA), and Diabetes South Africa.
