To establish the list, Forbes identified approximately 1,000 publicly traded companies with at least $1 billion

in annual sales and then divided those companies into 26 broad industry sectors. Companies were then selected based on such factors as sales and earnings growth, debt to total capital, earnings outlook and stock market returns.
