Veteran actor GORDON SCOTT has died following complications from several heart surgeries. He was 80.
Scott, who passed away at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday (30Apr07), is best known for portraying jungle hero Tarzan in six films, starting with Tarzan And The Lost Safari in 1955. The bodybuilder went on to appear in a series of western and gladiator movies.
Born on 3 August 1926 in Portland, Oregon, Scott was an unknown before producer Sol Lesser selected him from 200 hopefuls vying for the part of Tarzan.
After six years in the iconic role, Scott moved to Italy in 1960, where he turned up in films including Hercules.
He is thought to have had a minimum of three wives and at least three children.
Plans for a memorial service in Oregon are being made for next month (JUN07).
