SIR PAUL McCARTNEY suffered a scare at his country estate in England after a fan crashed a speeding car through entrance gates on Friday (30MAR07).
The motorist was screaming, "I must get to him (McCartney)" as he was apprehended by security staff, who feared an assassination attempt was taking place.
The crazed fan then took off across fields leading to McCartney's Peasmarsh home and was stopped just metres from the former BEATLE's farmhouse.
The driver then took off down nearby country lanes and finally gave himself up in a nearby village, where he was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and failing to stop, according to Sussex police reports.
McCartney wasn't at home when the incident happened, but arrived shortly afterwards.
A police spokesman adds, "He was detained under the Mental Health Act and is not facing charges." The frightening incident is the latest in a string of suspicious circumstances which have prompted McCartney to beef up security - two weeks ago Sussex police investigated a man who spent four days following the rocker in a blacked-out Volvo.
